UNC v Michigan, Michigan State v Louisville – .

Wednesday’s slate in the Big Ten / ACC Challenge features six games in total, including a handful of clashes between teams that could really use wins to jumpstart their 2021-22 seasons as the ACC tries to recover from a deficit of 6-2 in the event. For example, the overnight showdown is between Michigan’s No.24 and North Carolina, but if the game had been played on college basketball’s opening night, the No.2 Wolverines 6 would have played the No.17 Tar Heels.

The first three weeks of the season were not favorable to both teams, which only increases the stakes for Wednesday night’s showdown at UNC. Some of the other games feature similar storylines, as Virginia Tech will play Maryland in a squad battle with two early losses and NC State hosts Nebraska in a neglected squad battle.

However, all is not pessimistic. One of the first surprises of the season will be in action as the Wisconsin No.23 plays his first real road game against a Georgia Tech 5-1 team. If the Yellow Jackets can keep their home service, it would be a fine win for the ACC, who are on the verge of losing the challenge for a third straight season.

Below are our team’s picks heading into Wednesday.

Wednesday Big Ten / ACC Challenge schedule

Louisville au n°22 Michigan State

Time: 19 h 15 HE | Site: Centre de Breslin — East Lansing, Michigan

Featured Game | Michigan State Spartans contre Louisville Cardinals

After serving a six-game suspension, Louisville coach Chris Mack will be sidelined for the first time this season. The Cardinals are poised for victories against Mississippi State and Maryland. Michigan State’s only losses are against the top 10 teams Kansas and Baylor, and it has wins against Butler, Loyola (Chicago) and UConn. It will be Michigan state’s biggest home game yet and looks to be the most important for the Spartans until Michigan comes to town on November 29. The local crowd should give them an advantage. Prediction: Michigan State 74, Louisville 65

Nebraska to the State of North Carolina

Time: 19 h 15 HE | Site: PNC Arena – Raleigh, North Carolina
TV: ESPNU Direct: fuboTV (Try for free)

Featured Game | NC State Wolfpack contre Nebraska Cornhuskers

This is the very first meeting between these two, and they share some similarities. Both had to deal with crushing injuries early in the season. Nebraska will be without productive veteran goaltender Trey McGowens for several weeks due to a broken foot, while NC State has lost star big man Manny Bates for the season to a shoulder injury. Neither team has achieved a quality win yet, and a win here would provide a healthy dose of momentum as both face skyrockets to NCAA tournament consideration. The Wolfpack aren’t very good defensively, and Nebraska should be able to keep this one close to them until the end. Prediction: NC State 79, Nebraska 75

Virginia Tech au Maryland

Time: 19 h 15 HE | Site: Xfinity Center — College Park, Maryland
TV: ESPN2 | Direct: fuboTV (Try for free)

Featured Game | Maryland Terrapins contre Virginia Tech Hokies

These former ACC enemies will face off for the first time since Maryland left the league after the 2013-14 campaign. The two should be competitive in their respective leagues and be in the mix for the overall NCAA tournament offerings, but both could really use a win. Maryland (5-2) cannot afford to give up another home game after being upset by George Mason on November 17. Virginia Tech begins two losses by nine combined points to Memphis and Xavier in the NIT Tip-Off season last week. It’s a draw, but the Terrapins get the nod because of the home court advantage. Prédiction: Maryland 75, Virginia Tech 72

Miami to Penn State

Time: 21 h 15 HE | Site: Bryce Jordan Center – University Park, Pennsylvania
TV: ESPNU Direct: fuboTV (Try for free)

Featured Game | Penn State Nittany Lions Hurricane Miami, Florida

Penn State is a mystery team that has a 25 point road loss to UMass on its resume, as well as a 15 point neutral site victory over Oregon State. The Beavers also lost in overtime to LSU on neutral ground. Miami is 4-3, but was beaten by Alabama, lost 16 to Dayton and also lost a home game to UCF. Neither team has a clear identity, but the Nittany Lions have been better in recent weeks and should be able to handle home affairs. Prediction: Penn State 81, Miami 70

No. 24 of Michigan and Caroline of the North

Time: 21 h 15 HE | Site: Dean E. Smith Center — Chapel Hill, Caroline du Nord
TV: ESPN | Direct: fuboTV (Try for free)

Featured Game | North Carolina Tar Heels vs. Michigan Wolverines

A win here would go a long way in reviving either team amid some struggles early in the season. The two break into a ton of new faces, and for the UNC which includes head coach Hubert Davis. Offense has been the biggest issue for the Wolverines, while defense has been a major issue for the Tar Heels. This is Michigan’s first real road game this season, and the Dean Dome should measure up. Expect the Tar Heels to capitalize on that momentum against a Michigan team that may not yet have the cohesion to navigate a tough environment. Prediction: North Carolina 82, Michigan 77

No. 23 from Wisconsin to Georgia Tech

Time: 21 h 15 HE | Site: Pavillon McCamish — Atlanta
TV: ESPN2 | Direct: fuboTV (Try for free)

Featured Game | Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets contre Wisconsin Badgers

Wisconsin’s Maui Invitational title was a shock considering how much the Badgers lost last season. Stifling defense and unstoppable play from second goalie Jonathan Davis made the Badgers a surprise early in the season. This will be a major increase in competition for Georgia Tech, whose best win to date is against a poor Georgia team. Look for the Badgers to limit Yellow Jackets star Michael Devoe and try to force some of his teammates to step up their efforts. Prediction: Wisconsin 73, Georgia Tech 66
