Judge Toasts Lawyers Over Thin Fraud Allegations In Michigan Hearing Over Possible Sanctions – .

U.S. District Judge Linda Parker has ordered attorneys to pay the $ 21,964.75 attorney fees for Michigan state officials they sued in the trial. She also ordered attorneys to pay $ 153,285.62 in attorney fees for the city of Detroit, which was also a defendant in the election reversal lawsuit filed last year.

“Plaintiffs’ attorneys, many of whom solicit donations from the public to fund lawsuits like this, see, have the capacity to pay this penalty,” Parker wrote in a notice Thursday.

Parker is giving lawyers aligned with Trump 30 days to pay the fees. The order will be stayed, however, if lawyers appeal its underlying August decision ordering the sanctions, the judge said on Thursday.

In the August notice announcing that it would order sanctions, Parker said the lawyers had “engaged in contentious practices” which were “abusive and, in turn, punishable”.

“Sanctions are needed to deter the filing of future frivolous lawsuits designed primarily to spread the narrative that our electoral processes are rigged and our democratic institutions are untrustworthy,” the judge wrote in the August notice.
Wood said he would appeal the order in a statement to CNN Thursday night. “I did not take any action in Michigan and I had no involvement in the Michigan lawsuit filed by Sidney Powell,” he said.

Powell did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
