Rumors that the France international wanted to leave Paris began last season, with reports linking him to a move to Toulouse in February, but it appears the West Coast Yellows and Blacks have won the race to sign the testing phenomenon.
The previous Toulouse deal was also heralded as a “deal done” until an apparent last minute turnaround on the part of Thomas and Racing. The headlines of the time claimed that the capital was unwilling to renew its contract. “According to our information, Racing has decided not to renew the contract of its international winger Teddy Thomas which expires next June”, The team reported the time.
Nevertheless, according to information from South West, Thomas is expected to join La Rochelle for a three-year contract. It will put an end to an eight-year stay on the Parisian side.
The 28-year-old started his professional career in Biarritz before joining Jacky Lorenzetti’s reborn Racing in 2012. The versatile full-back has now been selected 28 times by France and is one of Fabien Galthié’s main offensive weapons in this year’s Guinness Six Nations.
What lies behind the separation of the proven try scorer and the club where he made his career remains unclear. It’s quite a blow for Les Maritimes, who recruited their French center compatriot Jonathan Danty from Racing over the summer.
