The hugely popular and ultra-violent Netflix series “Squid Game,” a South Korean-made survival game about people desperate to get out of debt, came in ninth.
American actor Baldwin, who accidentally killed a cinematographer on the set of a movie in October with a loaded gun, was Google’s most searched personality.
He beat Kyle Rittenhouse, the young American recently acquitted of the shooting murders of two people during an anti-racism protest in Wisconsin in 2020.
As for news categories, the term Afghanistan, seized by the Taliban in August, and Covid-19 vaccines were among the most searched terms.
But people have also searched for terms related to stocks such as GameStop, an electronics company that was the target of feverish buying, and cryptocurrencies like Dogecoin and Ether.
In the deceased category, people often searched for the name of Gabby Petito, a young American girl who was killed while traveling across the country with her boyfriend.
As was the case in 2020, questions about the pandemic dominated Google search traffic but this time questions about vaccines overtook those about Covid-19 testing.
