SHANG-CHI sequel officially in the works as director Destiny Daniel Cretton signs new deal with Marvel Studios – .

It probably won’t come as a surprise after the first film performed so well at the box office ($ 224.5 million domestic and $ 431.9 million worldwide), but Deadline has now confirmed that a sequel to Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings is officially in development at Marvel Studios.
Director Destin Daniel Cretton will return to lead the project as part of an exclusive multi-year global agreement with Disney Marvel Studios and Hulu’s Onyx Collective. The filmmaker is also reportedly working on a new Disney + series with MCU, but we don’t know if that will have anything to do with it. Shang-Chi or focus entirely on a new character.

“Working on Shang-Chi with Kevin and the team at Marvel Studios has been one of the highlights of my life, and I couldn’t be more excited about Tara’s vision for Onyx Collective. I look forward to exploring new stories and building new worlds with this community ”, dit Cretton.

“Destin is an extraordinary collaborator who brought a unique perspective and skill to Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings. We had a fantastic time working on the film together and he has so many intriguing story ideas to bring Disney + to life, so we’re excited to expand our relationship with him and can’t wait to get started, ” Marvel Studios commercial director Kevin Feige said.

“Destin is a powerful storyteller with an impeccable taste in materials. As we continue to grow our roster, Destin’s unique voice will help usher in an exciting roster of content for our global audience, ” added Tara Duncan, President, Freeform & Onyx Collective.

No word on the return of the cast members, but we’re assuming that Simu Liu (Shang-Chi) and Awkwafina (Katy), at the very least, will reprise their respective roles.

We’ll keep you posted as soon as we know more, but for now let us know what you think of this news in the comments.
