Star wars fans are known for have passionate opinions and Shang-Chi star Simu Liu is no different. In the last episode of Hot ones, the new Marvel hero was asked over a photo on his Instagram where he wore a red sith trooper helmet, which makes you wonder who her favorite Jedi is. The answer is probably controversial, but certainly well argued.

« It must be Qui-Gon Jinn« , Liu said in the show. “This whole idea of the Jedi in the Old Republic, you look at these council scenes where everyone is so stuck. They’re all like “These are the rules, we never break the rules”, and by the way, [that’s] very hypocritical too, because the Jedi are supposed not to want power. They say, “We have no thirst for power,” and there is literally a council that oversees everything in the highest part of Coruscant.

It’s true that… wait. Does he have more? OK, sure, go king.

“I love that Qui-Gon is a bit of a maverick,” Liu continued. ” He does not care. He’s like ‘Sorry I’m going to train this kid.’ And eventually this kid is going to grow up to be Darth Vader and overthrow the whole Republic, but you still have to admire the guy who can see through the hypocrisy of the Jedi Order. They think they’re the good guys, they’re like, ‘Oh yeah, we’re so good’, but they really were the instruments of their own demise, in a way.

In fact, Liu’s nerd out was so complete that he ended it by saying “Sorry I already … you put me on a Star wars tangent and I’ll show you my true colors.

He did and the moment is so pure and wonderful. There is something simply magical about seeing someone that you might discover if you’ve already met something yourself, especially if it’s something you are passionate about as well. And Liu is undoubtedly passionate about Star wars. You can watch the clip, which is all shown, below.

Liu’s movie, Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings, is now on Disney +.
