Serena Williams to skip Australian Open – .

Serena Williams confirms in shocking ad that she will not participate at the Australian Open “by following the advice of his medical team”.

Competing in multiple Australian Open tournaments, her first dating back to 2003 – the seven-time women’s singles champion was not on the entry list that was released for this year’s tournament on Wednesday.

“Following the advice of my medical team, I have decided to withdraw from this year’s Australian Open,” said Williams said in a press release.

“While it’s never an easy decision to make, I’m not where I need to be physically to compete. “

The news comes after Australian Open CEO Craig Tiley said last month the tennis star would likely play Melbourne Park for the tournament.

Since withdrawing from her first round match at Wimbledon with a hamstring injury, Williams has not made an appearance on the WTA tour – lowering her rank to 41st place.

With the tennis star’s decision to withdraw from the tournament, many believe it could be the last time they will see the former Grand Slam champion in Melbourne.

Williams, who holds more Grand Slam singles titles (23) than any other woman or man, will need just one more to tie Margaret Court’s record at 24.

With Serena Williams’ decision to pull out of the tournament, many believe it could be a farewell tour for the former Grand Slam champion in Melbourne.
