Seahawks safety Jamal Adams to undergo end-of-season shoulder surgery – .

It’s the same shoulder Adams played on last year, which required surgery during the offseason.

The Seahawks expect game safety to be fully restored for 2022, but consecutive years with shoulder surgery are cause for concern for the 26-year-old.

Adams left Sunday’s victory over the San Francisco 49ers after sustaining a shoulder injury and did not return. He was seen on the sidelines during the match in formal attire.

In the summer of 2020, the Seahawks traded two first-round picks – the 2022 selection is currently in the top 5 – as well as additional compensation to acquire Adams from the New York Jets.

In August 2021, Seattle granted Adams a four-year, $ 70 million contract extension, making him the highest-paid security in the NFL on an annual average.

With Adams’ campaign cut short by injury, he would end up playing 12 games in each of his first two seasons in Seattle.

There will be jokes on social media about how Adams falling with an injury could help Seahawks cover, but make no mistake, it’s a blow to the Seattle D. Yes, like all players, Adams has his flaws, especially in the coverage. But he’s also a jack-of-all-trades playmaker who can line up all over the roster and make quarterback life difficult. He’s the kind of defender offensive coordinators worry about who could ruin a game plan with his ability to blitz and make wild cards.

Sitting at 4-8, before Sunday’s game in Houston, Seattle is still a few games away from the Wild Card with three of its last five remaining against teams four or fewer wins (Texans, Bears, Lions). If Pete Carroll’s side is to pull off a stunning turnaround in their season, they’ll have to do it without their triple Pro Bowl security.
