Saturday night’s Peterborough Petes game canceled due to COVID-19 – .

Peterborough Petes’ game on Saturday against the Mississauga Steelheads was postponed due to the league’s COVID-19 protocols, the OHL announced on Friday night.

In a press release, the OHL said the action was taken “out of caution and in view of the league’s COVID-19 protocols affecting the Peterborough Petes Hockey Club.”

The press release added: “The Ontario Hockey League and the Peterborough Petes Hockey Club will not be commenting at this time. The league will provide an update on the matter as more information becomes available. The match will be rescheduled at a later date. “

This is a different announcement from the league’s announcement made on Tuesday when it announced that the Sudbury Wolves hockey club was suspending all operations after 12 players tested positive for COVID-19.

As of Thursday night, the Petes had three players unclothed due to illness, but at the time, Petes general manager Mike Oke said they were not linked to COVID-19.

The OHL also has a policy of not disclosing the identity of players who test positive for COVID-19.

Oke said Thursday that under OHL protocols, any time a player exhibits symptoms of COVID-19, they are automatically tested for COVID. In accordance with OHL policies, all members of the Petes organization, as well as all members of the OHL community, are doubly vaccinated. Proof of dual vaccination is required to enter the 17 OHL facilities based in Ontario.

The Petes issued a similar press release on Friday night, adding that all digital tickets released for Saturday’s game will be reissued for the makeup game, and all physical tickets will also be honored when the game is rescheduled.

Calls to Oke and Petes president Dave Pogue for more information were unsuccessful and other questions submitted to the OHL on Friday night went unanswered.

The Petes are scheduled to visit the Ottawa 67’s on Wednesday.
