Richard E Grant has revealed that his car was stolen and used to search a Tesco Express while stuck in a quarantine hotel.
The Withnail & I actor posted a tweet on Wednesday saying he was awoken by police at 4 a.m. and told of the theft.
Quoting the iconic character, he told his followers, “I think we’ve been here too long. I feel unusual, I think we should go out.
He added: “With the Covid quarantine citation for Wednesday. Woke up at 4am – police called to report my car had been stolen and used to search a Tesco Express! Like my mate @EricIdle This is not the case [sic]to twitter “ALWAYS SEEK THE BRIGHT TTY OF LIFE!” “”
It came about after a 4 × 4 was seen being pulled from a Tesco Express at Bear Rd, Hanworth on Monday.
Police said they recovered a vehicle from the scene of the break-in at 2:30 a.m.
Scotland Yard said they could not release personal details of victims of crime and would not confirm the link to the actor’s stolen vehicle.
In a video on Twitter, he said: “I went to Southern Africa to visit my 90-year-old mother and got caught by the restrictions in the Covid Red Region.
“It took over a week and many canceled flights to finally get home, for which I am extremely grateful.
“I understand that there is a security charge in the hotel and you have to pay for two Covid tests, but £ 228 per day to receive 3 meals per day of this very poor standard, in a supposed Holiday Inn 4 hotel *, beggars belief. “
