Patrice Evra wants new Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick to ‘shake up’ Marcus Rashford and admits he’s getting ‘frustrated’ with the England international.

Evra, who won five Premier League and Champions League titles at Old Trafford, was disappointed with Rashford’s first-half performance in Thursday’s 3-2 win over Arsenal.

Rangnick was only in the stands for the Premier League game, with Michael Carrick taking charge of his last game before announcing his departure from the club, but will take over from tomorrow as interim boss.

Evra believes Rangnick was brought in in part to “shake up” the players after their poor run under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and says the German boss should start by “frustrating” Rashford.

After missing the start of the season with injury, Rashford has struggled to produce his best football for the Red Devils, failing to score in his last six appearances.

Speaking at halftime, Evra said Main video: ‘I want a player like Marcus Rashford who plays more forward. I don’t know why he keeps returning the ball.

‘He’s starting to get frustrated. We’re talking about Rangnick and he’s coming here to shake up the players. The first to be honest is Rashford.

“With the pace he has, the ability he has, I don’t understand why he doesn’t have that killer instinct and just goes for the one-on-one player. “

Evra was slightly won over by Rashford’s second-half performance as he provided an assist for Cristiano Ronaldo to score his 800th career goal.

Speaking after the game, Evra added: “I was really happy with the second half. Marcus Rashford was finally running by, maybe he listened to what I said at halftime!

“Michael Carrick did very well. Everyone was waiting for Ralf Rangnick to be the savior – now he’s got the team and it’s time to deliver.

Another former Manchester United defender, Danny Higginbotham, also praised Carrick for allowing a smooth transition between managers.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “It’s a massive victory for Manchester United especially the way they conceded and then it was a tough fight for them.

“But they got back into the game and all the credit goes to them. It has been a difficult time. They don’t have the results at home, but Michael Carrick has done a tremendous job for the games he has coached.

“Ralf Rangnick knows exactly what to do. It will be a big job, there is no doubt. But it is a huge result for them.
