This year the world has been put to the test for solace in the unknown. The more it became evident that nothing was becoming “normal” again, the more everyone learned to adapt to a new way of life. And while nothing is certain, the Pantone Color of the Year 2022 brings a positive twist to the future as we continue to open up to new possibilities – and, according to their prediction, looks pretty bright.
It’s been two years since the Pantone Color Institute selected classic blue as the color of the year, and the world authority once again returns to the blue family by presenting their Choice 2022, Pantone 17-3938 Very Peri, a periwinkle blue with a purplish red undertone. The new shade, which was created specifically for the Color of the Year 2022, is meant to evoke comfort with a courageous touch, symbolic of the reassurance we all need during unpredictable times while encouraging hope, novelty. and creativity.
“As we enter a world of unprecedented change, the selection of PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri brings a fresh perspective and a new take on the trusted and beloved blue color family,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Director Executive of the Pantone Color Institute, in a press release. Release. “Encompassing the qualities of the blues, while at the same time possessing a shade of violet red, PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri displays a cheerful, cheerful demeanor and a dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expression. “
At its core, Very Peri is a combination of the digital world that everyone has become accustomed to and the physical world, or what is seen in nature. The Pantone Color Institute has identified periwinkle blue as a color present in digital design and games, while also existing in the outside world in the form of flowers and blue birds, among others. It represents the merging of the two worlds in our current lives, a balance that will continue for the foreseeable future.
World authority describes color as “courageous,” “empowering,” “spirited,” “joyful,” “novel dynamic presence,” “imaginative,” “whimsical aesthetic,” and “futuristic,” making it a nuance which offers hope as we enter a new year of uncertainty.
If you’re wondering how this shade translates into the home, Pantone says it’s about being that much-needed pop of color. Very Peri can bring in brightness while blending in with a range of materials, textures and finishes, according to the press release. A great way to start infusing Very Peri into your space is to use accessories that can easily be swapped in and out, or for those feeling more daring, you can directly paint an accent wall or ceiling that creates the depth.

As Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, told Apartment Therapy: “Even though we’ve all been deeply shaken up, at the same time it’s exciting because we are looking to the future and we ‘re- imagining a whole new way of living, and it opened up a whole new perspective on life, what we value and where do we go from here. ”
