Ministers are expected to sign new rules to impose homeworking and vaccine certification across England in the face of increasing Covid cases, according to the Guardian.

Downing Street said no final decision had been made, but ministers and officials met on Wednesday to move to Plan B and start
imposing certain restrictions from Wednesday evening.

Ministers are increasingly worried about the threat of the Omicron variant, which appears to be more transmissible than Delta, and scientists believe it could become dominant in the coming weeks.

They fear it will overwhelm the NHS in yet another wave of Covid, although it is not more serious than Delta, due to the speed at which it appears to be spreading.

The move comes as the government comes under intense pressure over the Christmas party and a staged departure at No.10 during last year’s lockdown.
