Lorraine incites more than 1,300 complaints to Ofcom regarding vaccine statistics – .

Le talk-show d’ITV Lorraine sparked over 1,300 complaints to Ofcom with a recent segment discussing Covid vaccinations.
Monday’s episode of the show (December 6), hosted by Lorraine Kelly, featured Spandau Ballet star Martin Kemp, who was interviewed on the show after running a campaign to promote the use of vaccines among UK citizens.

During the segment, the show’s medical specialist, Dr Hilary Jones, claimed that “90 percent of people in hospital are not vaccinated.”

“It’s a number we really need to focus on,” Kelly said.

However, viewers complained that the numbers were wrong, leading Kelly to clarify the show earlier today (December 8).

Ofcom, the UK’s broadcast standards regulator, has confirmed it has already received 1,312 complaints about the incident.

While the vaccine has been shown to significantly reduce the risk of hospitalization in people affected by Covid, it is wrong to say that 90% of hospitalized Covid patients are not vaccinated.

Jamie Jenkins, a former Office of National Statistics analyst, was among those who denounced the error, writing on Twitter that the actual figure is closer to 36% in England, not 90%.

Speaking on her series, Kelly clarified the numbers, saying, “90% of hospital patients are very seriously ill and receive the most specialized care. “

This figure was attributed to a report of Sunday Times, citing NHS England, but the data itself has yet to be made available to the public.

The Independent has contacted ITV for comment.
