Jack Grealish responds to Aston Villa fans after Man City return – .

Former Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish returned to Villa Park for the first time since his £ 100million move to Manchester City in August on Wednesday night.
Grealish came off the substitutes bench to help City fend off a retaliation at Villa after Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva put the visitors in the lead with two quality goals.

Center-back Dias swept home after hanging on to Raheem Sterling’s cut with 27 minutes and Bernardo stole home in style two minutes before halftime to put City in control.

But Villa did not sink and hit back through Ollie Watkins as Steven Gerrard’s side put on a fighting display in their third game in charge of bringing the reigning Premier League champions closer together.

It was an emotional evening for all concerned with Grealish’s return to B6 in the opposition colors, but only as a replacement to begin with.

He came off the bench with three minutes left and while some fans have made their feelings known about his decision to leave for City, there was some applause on his arrival.

Grealish also wanted to thank the supporters after the game.

“Excellent performance and 3 important points,” the Solihull-born childhood Villa fan wrote on social media. “Thank you very much for the excellent reception at Villa Park, it was great to be back. “

Villa has done well to stand up to City and not be distracted by the sight of Grealish’s return.

They have now only conceded three times in three games under Gerrard since replacing Dean Smith last month, winning two games.

“Regarding the second half, I thought we were exceptional. We scared City because we were so close to taking something away from the game, ”said Gerrard.

“It was a great reaction from the players and I told them not to leave this stadium with their heads down at all. “
