COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) – In northern Denmark, an IKEA showroom has been transformed into a spacious bedroom. Six customers and about two dozen employees were stranded by a snowstorm and spent the night in the store, sleeping in the beds usually on display.
Up to 30 centimeters (12 inches) of snow fell, trapping customers and employees as the Aalborg department store closed on Wednesday evening.
“We slept in the furniture exhibitions and our showroom on the first floor, where we have beds, mattresses and sofa beds,” store manager Peter Elmose told tabloid Ekstra Bladet. People could “choose the exact bed they always wanted to try”.
Elmose said they spent the evening watching TV and eating, adding that it had “gone really well. It was a good night. All the pleasure.
Danish public broadcaster DR said people working at a nearby IKEA toy store also spent the night in the department store.
“It’s much better than sleeping in your car. It was nice and warm and we are just happy they let us in, ”Michelle Barrett, one of the toy store workers, told DR.
“We just laughed at the situation because we probably won’t see her again,” added Barrett.
