In a decision that reeked “we can’t award the prize to whoever we want, so we’re going to cancel everything”, France Football did not award a Ballon d’Or in 2020 – the year it was probably the most obvious that Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich was the best player in the world.
According to Bild, however, this decision could be… overturned? We’ll take a look:
Will Lewy finally get his golden ball – because he’s such a fair gentleman?
The 2021 winner Lionel Messi (34) had already told Lewy in his victory speech in Paris: “Everyone knows you were the winner last year. I think France Football should give you the 2020 award. You deserve it and you should have it at home too. ”
It could actually happen like this! France Football editor-in-chief Pascal Ferré told BILD: “I heard what Messi said. We will talk about it and think about it. But we will take our time to make a decision.
The host was particularly impressed with his appearance as a gentleman at this year’s gala: “Lewandowski is not only a fantastic player, but also a fantastic person. He knew in advance that he was not going to win and I do not know how many players would have come by then. But he was still so nice, so smart, it was so fair play! And the Ballon d’Or isn’t just an award for the best footballer, it’s also a question of people.
(Sound recording – does he know some of the people who won the award?)
Ferré continued to talk a little more and then finally said, “But I won’t make a prognosis now. May be… “
So… who knows?
