Coyotes deny announcement the team is for sale, highlight commitment to Arizona – .

The Arizona Coyotes released a statement Thursday denying a report the team was for sale and could be transferred to Houston.
“This is wrong,” the statement read. “Totally wrong. We don’t sell. We are not moving. The Coyotes are 100% committed to playing in Arizona.

Forbes legal analyst Eric Macramalla reported earlier today that the team was for sale with the intention of a possible relocation to Houston, citing an anonymous banking source.

Owner Alex Meruelo has previously said he plans to keep the Coyotes in Arizona.

The Coyotes, who have rented the Gila River Arena on an annual basis since Glendale City Council voted to withdraw from a long-term, multi-million dollar deal in 2016, are seeking temporary accommodation in use after the 2021-22 season after Glendale said it would not renew the deal.

The team proposed a $ 1.7 billion development in Tempe, a town just east of Phoenix, that would be funded by private investors, although the team said it would seek tax revenue municipal sales to help pay $ 200 million in additional costs, including infrastructure work. .

The Coyotes made the only field offer in September. The city of Tempe said the assessment process will take several months and include in-depth reviews, with opportunities for community feedback.
