Bulls’ Javonte Green tests positive for COVID-19, vs. Nets – .

Javonte Green has entered the NBA’s COVID-19 health and safety protocols and is out for Saturday’s game with the Brooklyn Nets, the Chicago Bulls confirmed in their injury report on Friday.
Bulls coach Billy Donovan confirmed on Saturday that Green entered protocol with a positive test for COVID-19. Green traveled overnight by car from New York to Chicago between Friday and Saturday.

“I felt bad for him,” Donovan told reporters in Brooklyn ahead of Saturday’s game. ” [I’ve spoken with him] by text messaging. We missed each other on phone calls. He replied by text, he said he was fine. “

Green is the second Bulls player to test positive this week with Coby White, who tested positive on Wednesday, December 1, just before the team left for their two-game road trip to New York.

NBA protocols require positive players to spend 10 days away from their team, unless they produce two negative PCR tests in a 24-hour period. Once negative tests have been produced, players undergo cardiac screening before being allowed to return to play.

Bulls center Nikola Vučević, for example, tested positive for COVID-19 on November 11, was cleared for heart screening on November 21, and returned to action on November 24. He missed seven games.

“I think it’s happening,” Donovan said of the NBA passing stricter protocols during the holiday season. “I think the way things are going right now is getting a little more strict – and certainly for us right now it’s a lot more strict because we currently have two players who are positive. “

Donovan confirmed after White’s positive that the Bulls continue to undergo daily COVID-19 tests. In light of Thanksgiving, the NBA instituted daily tests for league players from November 28 through December 1.

The Bulls won the first game of their road swing in New York on Thursday 119-115 over the Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Green started and played 29 minutes in the contest, totaling four points and five rebounds.

Green, who has appeared in all 23 games of the team and started 12, is the Bulls’ regular starting striker. He slipped on the bench in favor of Alex Caruso when Vučević was sent off, but returned to the front line when Vučević did.

Caruso, meanwhile, is a play decision against the Nets with right hamstring strain. Donovan brought Troy Brown Jr. back into the rotation for nine minutes against the Knicks, but may have to dig even deeper without Green, and possibly Caruso, against Brooklyn.
