Apple will fund and distribute a long-running film about struggling Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes. Bad blood will star Jennifer Lawrence as Holmes, while Adam McKay will write and direct. The two are producers of the project, which is a co-production between Apple Studios and Legendary.
The movie, which is based on the book Bad Blood: secrets and lies in a Silicon Valley start-up by the old one le journal Wall Street journalist John Carreyrou, has been in development since at least 2016, as Deadline Remarks. The film will describe the rise and fall of Holmes and his company.
The hype surrounding the blood testing startup led Holmes to become the youngest self-made billionaire. Charges and accusations of fraud led her to resign as CEO in 2018 and wind up the company later in the year. Holmes is currently on trial for fraud.

Bad blood is far from the only film and television project on Theranos and Holmes. Hulu lit a miniseries in 2019 with Saturday Night Live Star Kate McKinnon chose to play Holmes. She dropped out earlier this year and was replaced by Amanda Seyfried. An HBO documentary on the Theranos saga premiered in 2019.

Meanwhile, Lawrence and McKay recently worked together on the Netflix movie. Do not seek, which hits theaters this weekend and will be available to stream on December 24. It’s a satire on two astronomers (played by Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio) trying to warn humanity of a catastrophic comet that is expected to collide with Earth.
