Musician Jay Jay Phillips, his band Mettal Maffia, died on December 3. He was 30 years old.
“It is with great sadness that we all inform you of the loss of our bandmate / brother / and friend @jayjayrocks,” reads the group’s post, which features an image of Phillips with wings on it. angel. “It still doesn’t seem real and we would do anything to change it. TMZ reports that during Thanksgiving week he was found dead in his home by his girlfriend and mother. He would not have been vaccinated yet, however, he had informed friends that he had planned to be vaccinated. Phillips’ father is currently sick with COVID and is on a ventilator in hospital, according to the outlet.
Phillips, known for his larger-than-life hairstyle and keyboard skills, appeared in the NBC competition series America has talent twice: once in 2009, when he was knocked out early in the process, and again in 2017, when he was sent home during the quarter-finals. Since then, the artist has worked with Mettal Maffia and, in, shared how excited he was to tour with his band mates.
