75 other cases of Omicron confirmed in England – .

A total of 75 other cases of Variante Covid-19 Omicron have been identified in England, said the British Health Safety Agency (UKHSA).

This brings the total number of confirmed cases in England to at least 104 – some of the more recent cases are not related to travel, but are instead detected within the community.

Those who test positive and their contacts have been asked to self-isolate and work is underway to identify any connection to travel.

Cases have now been identified in the East Midlands, East England, London, North East, North West, South East, South West and West Midlands .

Wales reported its first case of the Omicron variant on Friday, while the number of confirmed cases in Scotland has risen to at least 29.

UKHSA Executive Director Dr Jenny Harries said: “We have started to see cases where there is no link to travel, suggesting that we have a small amount of community transmission.

“This is why it is so important that everyone, everywhere, take simple steps to protect themselves from infection.

“Please wear face coverings as per government guidelines, let in fresh air when mixing indoors, and wash your hands regularly.“Vaccination is essential to help us strengthen our defenses against this new variant, so please get your first, second, third or booster as soon as you are eligible to protect yourself, your families and your communities. “
