One confirmed case and two probable cases of the Omicron COVID-19 variant have been detected in the Halton region, according to local officials.

The three cases are linked, one of the probable cases involving someone who recently traveled to Nigeria, a Halton Region press release said Thursday.

The press release indicates that the individuals are now isolated at home.

All close contacts were asked to self-isolate and be tested, regardless of their vaccination status “out of caution,” the statement said.

“We continue to monitor the situation closely and I urge all residents to be vigilant in light of the entry of the Omicron variant into our community,” said Halton Medical Officer of Health Dr. Hamidah Meghani.
