A woman who ran onto the tarmac at Los Angeles International Airport was arrested by police on Monday evening.
A statement from Los Angeles Airport Police said the woman, who had a ticket, was in Terminal 1 of the airport when she opened a door, triggered an alarm and walked towards a ramp leading to the tarmac.
“The airline employees who saw the woman exiting the terminal followed security protocols and maintained eye contact until airport police arrived shortly after and arrested the woman,” the woman said. communicated.
The woman, who has not been identified, told police “she was trying to wave at the plane,” the police statement said. The plane was parked at the gate.
Videos taken by a passer-by appear to show the woman, who carried a black backpack and other items in her arm, apparently struggling with a man trying to steer her off the tarmac. She can be seen trying to get away from him while enthusiastically greeting several airline employees.
In another video, the woman is seen standing next to an officer while her bag and belongings are searched.
The woman was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries and a mental health assessment, police said.
Police said the incident did not result in any flight delays.
