Varane, Shaw, Cavani – Manchester United injury update ahead of Arsenal game – .

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire is available for Arsenal’s clash on Thursday night (8:15 p.m.) after serving his one-match suspension.
The 28-year-old was given a red card as United were heavily beaten by Watford on a day that marked the final lead in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking.

Ralf Rangnick has since been appointed the club’s interim manager until the end of the season. Michael Carrick oversaw the games against Villarreal and Chelsea between those two Old Trafford boardroom decisions.

United have welcomed Mason Greenwood to their squad against Chelsea after recovering from Covid-19 with the teenager being an unused replacement at Stamford Bridge. United are now awaiting updates on other absent Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw, Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani.

Each of these four players has not been available for selection so far under Carrick.

Here is the current state of affairs on the treatment table ahead of the Premier League meeting with the Gunners;

Edinson Cavani

Injury: Tendon

Possible return date: Thursday 2 December (vs Arsenal)

What Cavani said: “The problem was like that. Before starting the season, I had tendon discomfort. It made me spend a few weeks outside until I started to gain a few minutes [on the pitch] in my team. I had to go back to the national team, still with a little pain, but with the hope that it would go away. It was improving but, after Tottenham, it started to come back. ”

Paul pogba

Injury: Thigh

Return date: January.

What Solskjaer said: “It was a disappointing injury for Paul and a disappointing time for him. Sometimes you hope, keep your fingers crossed, for six or seven weeks and the worst case is 10, 11, 12 weeks with muscle injuries like this. One thing that I’m sure is that Paul is determined to come back and do his best when he comes back and he’s already started this recovery with his own great mentality to come back stronger. Hopefully, right after Christmas, we can see it.

Possible return date: Thursday 2 December (vs Arsenal)

What Carrick said: « Luc [Shaw] got a hit on the head and we were evaluating that and he just wasn’t right [against Villarreal], he did not get back in shape in time for the game. It’s unfortunate for Luke. ”
