Residents of the Toronto area woke up to a little more snow than expected on Sunday morning.

The GTA was expected to receive 2-4cm of snow, but saw 3-6cm, areas north of the city receiving more due to the lake effect.

On Twitter, #onstorm was all the rage on Sunday morning as people walked up to the platform to talk about the storm.

Twitter user Desert Sandbox reminded people to put their snow tires in the middle of the snowfall.

On the topic of driving, Twitter user Kevin Proulx shared a meme that talked about the tendency for people to forget how to drive in bad weather.

This is not only a first for humans, but also for “man’s best friend”. Twitter user Dapper Tux shared a photo of his puppy exploring the snow for the first time.

The OPP’s Twitter account on traffic in the GTA indicated that there had been several collisions on the 400 series freeways, including three on Highway 404 near Elgin Mills Road in Markham.

York Regional Police reported that one of the collisions on Highway 400 had passengers trapped in a vehicle.

In an email, a City of Toronto spokesperson reported that they are ready with the equipment to handle this early snowfall. They began deploying anti-ice trucks on Saturday afternoon, which spray brine to help reduce salt use and keep snow from sticking to the road.

“The snow plows are ready to roll on the main roads if the snow accumulation reaches 5 cm. Plows are moving on highways when the build-up reaches 2.5 cm, ”the city said. “The residential streets are being salted and would be cleared of snow if the snow accumulated 8 cm, which the forecasts do not foresee at this stage. “
