Twitter has provided its developers with a “full” (2021) MacBook Pro with M1 Max processors, which software engineer John Szumski says has transformed its development of mobile applications.
Twitter is the latest company to bring Apple’s new spiced silicon MacBook Pro to its developers in hopes of cutting build times and saving a fortune in software development expenses from the more powerful machines.
In a tweet Szumski declared:
I’m excited to roll out fully loaded M1 Max MBPs to all of Twitter’s iOS and Android engineers! We are seeing improvements in both peak performance and thermal throttling that are currently affecting our Intel versions.
He warned that the move brought a “ton of work” behind the scenes due to the change in architecture, but the rewards were performance improvements and the end of thermal throttling over previous Intel models.

Twitter has joined Uber and Reddit to make similar changes over the past few weeks, with a change at Reddit announced by Jameson Williams earlier this month offering a unique insight into how much money the move could save:
Thanks to Apple’s new silicon, the new MacBook Pro models are the best MacBooks Apple has ever made. They also feature a 120Hz mini-LED display, upgraded speakers, and return “pro” ports like the HDMI port and SD card slot, as well as MagSafe charging.
