Simon Yates could participate in both the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France next year.
The Team BikeExchange rider can try to win the Giro, but would then expect to win individual stages as a goal in France.

Cycling News reports that the team is still waiting to see the full route of the Vuelta 2022, which will be released in December, before factoring it into their plans.

Matt White, the team’s sporting director, told the website: “I really like the course but we are still waiting for the details and we want to see the GPX files. [containing race data] but if there is one constant characteristic of the Giro, it is that it always has a brutal rear.

“You know what you get with the Giro. It is always the most demanding of the three Grand Tours when it comes to meters of climb and some stages are huge, and we speak of 5,000 meters of climb on certain days. The figure circulating at the moment is that there are 51,000 m of elevation gain over the entire race.

We are preparing for a difficult race.

“Machine” Roglic will compete with Pogacar in the Tour de France 2022 – Wiggins

The 29-year-old British rider took part in both Grand Tours in 2019 and 2021. In 2019, he finished eighth in the Giro, then completed two stages on the Tour. In 2021, he finished third in the Giro before a disappointing Tour ended in a crash on stage 13.

“It’s really a race for climbers, but even when the Giro has done about 50 to 60 km of time trial, it’s still a race for climbers, realistically,” White continued.

“The best climbers ultimately get to the top of the Giro because the stages are so demanding.

“We’re still discussing it for the moment but it’s a race he loves, and he also loves the Tour de France.

“It’s very likely that if we see him at the Giro we will also see him on the Tour, but we still have to discuss things and of course we still haven’t seen the course of the Vuelta yet. We are in the process of deciding our plans, but it is certainly a great route for climbers.
