Toronto police to patrol near COVID vaccination sites as children begin to receive vaccines – Toronto – .

Toronto police will patrol near COVID-19 vaccination sites over the coming days as the vaccination campaign for children aged 5 to 11 intensifies.

Const. David Hopkinson told Global News that no incidents have been reported at the city’s vaccination sites, but said the service is monitoring the situation nationally and internationally.

Hopkinson said officers were not aiming to stop protests, but protesters were not allowed to harass people attending clinics.

He said the “general directive to officers” was a “proactive measure”.

He said officers won’t necessarily be stationed at vaccination clinics, but will patrol them as part of their shifts.

Hopkinson said community members have expressed some concerns about taking their children to be vaccinated and that the decision is taken to be reassuring.

“Interference or obstruction will not be tolerated,” read a tweet from Toronto Police.

“Charges will be laid if warranted. “
