The Blues hosted United at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Sunday night, with Thomas Tuchel’s side preparing for the clash as top-flight leaders.
But if they would have expected to secure a victory over the underperforming Red Devils and extend their advantage at the top of the league, it was not to be for Tuchel’s men.
The game plan put together by interim boss Michael Carrick saw United sit deep for much of the first half before knocking out Chelsea on the counterattack to get past Jadon Sancho.
HAVE YOUR WORD TO SAY! Who was Chelsea’s man of the game against Manchester United? Comments below.
Chelsea were able to get back into the game when Aaron Wan-Bissaka knocked Silva down in the area with an awkward challenge.
Jorginho stepped in to score the shot on goal, expiating his mistake which directly led Sancho to open the scoring.
Despite the intense pressure on United, Chelsea couldn’t find a winner, leaving them with a slim one-point lead over Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.
A key part of their success this season has been Silva’s presence in the last three, with the Brazilian having made 10 league appearances so far this quarter.
He has helped Chelsea keep five clean sheets and concede just five goals in those games, with the Blues currently holding the title of having the league’s best defensive record.
Silva was selected again to start against United on Sunday, with Ronaldo surprisingly left on the bench by Carrick.
Many questioned that decision ahead of the game, including Scholes who told Premier League productions it would have been easy for Ronaldo to play against the Chelsea star.
But Scholes ended up with an egg to his face as Silva put on another compound defensive performance at Stamford Bridge.

He blocked a shot, won five of his defensive duels, made three clears and made eight digs while playing the 90 minutes of the draw.
Ronaldo was signed on after 64 minutes, with Chelsea scoring their equalizer shortly after replacing Marcus Rashford.
It was an evening the superstar will want to quickly forget, failing to pull out of any description and losing all six of her duels.
And Silva has now hit back at Scholes, after being made aware of his pre-game comments by a Chelsea fan page on Instagram.
“According to Paul Scholes, facing Thiago Silva would have been easy for Cristiano Ronaldo,” the fan page wrote in caption form showing Ronaldo being reserved following an interaction with Silva.
Silva responded to this post by poking fun at the fact that Scholes is now retired from professional football.
“It’s always easy, especially for those who have stopped playing !! Silva wrote with three laughing emojis.
