The Penultimate Episode of World Beyond – .

Warning: This story contains spoilers for The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Sunday’s “Death and the Dead”. There is a significant loss in the war with the Army of the Civic Republic in the penultimate episode of The Walking Dead: The World Beyond. After Huck (Annet Mahendru) exposed a CRM plot to commit genocide against the 87,000 survivors of Portland with the green liquid chlorine gas the CRM used to wipe out Omaha and the campus colony, Warrant Officer Jadis Stokes (Pollyanna McIntosh) mobilizes the army to quell a rebellion. Meanwhile, rebel sisters Iris (Aliyah Royale) and Hope Bennett (Alexa Mansour) implement their plan to escape the CR Research Facility – and shoot him down on the way out.

After erasing their research that the CRM was using to advance Project Votus, the Bennett family’s exit strategy relies on Hope’s science classmate Mason Beale (Will Meyers). The still-to-be-seen son of the Major-General of CRM Beale, the Bennett’s use the hostage to negotiate their escape from the facility with two trucks full of fuel.

The group’s action against the CRM results in a deadlock at a guard gate outside the facility where Jadis and his troops are attempting to negotiate the safe surrender of the Major General’s son. The former security guard of the campus colony, Felix (Nico Tortorella) points his gun at Mason, declaring the terms of the agreement: they leave and Beale’s son is returned unharmed.

Accelerating the impasse, a column of the dead approaches the escapees towards the establishment. Felix threatens to kill Mason, the only bargaining chip in the group preventing the CRM from taking them down.

Formerly defends the MRC genocide as a way to protect the limited resources of the Civic Republic, the hidden city that is home to 200,000 of the living and the “last light of the world”. According to Jadis, the 110,000 souls killed in the tactical military operation that destroyed Omaha and the campus colony were “mercy.”

When the walkers enter the enclosure, Mason gives a head butt to Iris and frees himself of his boyfriend Percy (Ted Sutherland) in agitation. Jadis orders one-shot assassinations as Percy pursues a fleeing Mason in the midst of a shower of bullets fired by CRM soldiers dressed in black.

Iris is devastated to see Percy lying on the ground with a bullet hole in the back of his head. Hope turns her gun on Mason, blaming him for Percy’s death, but Iris dissuades her. The group leaves Mason – and Huck – behind and flees the establishment, leaving Jadis to respond to Major General Beale.
