At a ceremony held last night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Scarlett Johansson become the 35th actor to win the American Cinematheque Award, which is “presented annually to an extraordinary artist currently making a significant contribution to the art of moving film”. The people who came to congratulate her and her work included her Marvel co-stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Sam Rockwell, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Sam Rockwell and Jon Favreau, among others. But that wasn’t the big news of the night.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was also in attendance and casually announced, “We’re already working on another non-Black Widow– a top secret Marvel Studios project with her as a producer. It’s weird, mainly because Johannson filed a complaint just last July against Disney who alleged that the pivot both in theaters and streaming on the streaming service Disney + violated Johansson’s contract with the company, which guaranteed the film would get an exclusive cinema outing, which would have cost the actor the loss millions of dollars. This lawsuit was settled in private A simple two months ago, in September. The fact that Johansson is already working with Marvel Studios again is extremely noteworthy, especially because it must mean that everything she negotiated in her private arbitration with Disney was satisfactory enough that she did not endure any ill will at all. company (Johansson also continues to work with Disney beyond Marvel, featured in an upcoming movie adapt the Disney park merry-go-round The tower of terror).
But the other notable aspect is, if not related to Black Widow, what could this project be? Johansson played the Avenger for over a decade, starting in the 2010s Iron man 2, followed by eight other Marvel Cinematic Universe movies that culminated with the Black Widow. Certainly, Feige only said that she is only going to be a producer rather than playing in the project, but she’s so tied to Natasha Romanoff that it always seems odd that the character isn’t involved. Personally, I suspect that Feige might be deliberately shy, and it could be a TV series or movie starring Black Widow‘s Florence Pugh, who played the murderous companion of Romanoff and de facto little sister Yelena Belova. This film ended with the mysterious Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) telling Yelena that Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) murdered Natasha, prompting her to take revenge. Considering that Pugh is going to appear in the next Hawkeye series, that will likely be sorted out there. But Yelena was such a prominent figure in Black Widow I could very easily see her get her own movie or her own show. If it’s called Elena, and the character has her revenge issues sorted out, so Feige could technically say that Black Widow isn’t involved … from a certain point of view.
But at first glance, “unrelated to Black Widow” certainly sounds like Johansson will be producing a movie or series about one or more new characters joining the MCU. Guesses? Let us know in the comments!
