Russian diplomat found dead near Berlin embassy in what Moscow calls “tragic accident” – .


A Russian diplomat died in Berlin in what the Russian embassy called a “tragic accident” on Friday.
He said the incident involving the embassy employee happened on October 19, but gave no details of what happened.

The Russian embassy released its statement after German news magazine Der Spiegel, which did not cite any sources, reported that a 35-year-old man apparently fell from an upper floor of the building of the embassy in central Berlin. He said police found his body outside the embassy and were unable to resuscitate him.

Germany’s Foreign Ministry said on Friday it was aware of the case but could not comment, citing confidentiality concerns. Berlin police and prosecutors also declined to comment.

Der Spiegel reported that the man had been listed as second secretary at the Russian embassy since 2019, but said German security authorities allegedly believed he worked for the Russian intelligence agency FSB.

The embassy statement said that “we consider the speculations which have surfaced in a number of Western media in light of this tragic event to be absolutely incorrect.”
