The Prince of Wales has been on a four-day tour of the Middle East after speaking to the Queen and receiving her blessing.

Charles has reportedly discussed the trip to Jordan and Egypt on behalf of the British government – which is due to begin today – following his mother’s recent health problem and after his last-minute decision to step down from the cenotaph on Sunday after making him a sprained back.

It is understood that she was reassured by her that the official visit, which was designed to strengthen bilateral relations in the region, should take place.

“The conversation would have taken place over the weekend over the phone,” a source said.

It is hoped that the prince’s decision to continue the tour with his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, may also reassure a nervous public about the head of state’s health.

The Queen, 95, was last seen in an official public engagement on October 19 and was forced to cancel all public engagements after being admitted to hospital overnight for what the Buckingham Palace described only as “preliminary tests”.

She only undertook “light duties”, including virtual hearings, after being advised by doctors to take an extended period of rest.

She had, however, signaled her intention to attend the official Remembrance Sunday commemorations – described by a royal aide as the “most inked” engagement in her diary.

Less than two hours before his arrival, however, Buckingham Palace announced their ‘regret’ that they had to withdraw after spraining their backs.

It was only the sixth time she had missed the event – her other absences due to pregnancy or absence on tour – and the first time in 22 years.

Palace attendants were careful to point out that her condition was in no way linked to her hospitalization last month and that no one ‘was more disappointed’ than the Queen herself at the unexpected turn of events.

They will mark the centenary of its founding and will highlight trade, economic and cultural ties, and the effect of the climate change crisis on the kingdom.

Jordan is seen as a haven of stability in the region and a place where religious tolerance flourishes.

Charles’s visit to Jordan will also strengthen security cooperation and the long-standing relationship between the two royal families.

On the first day of the engagement, the couple will be greeted by King Abdullah and Queen Rania at Al Husseiniya Palace.

Later in the week Charles, 73, and Camilla 74, will fly to Egypt where they will enjoy a tour of the pyramids.

The couple are set to make more than 30 formal engagements between them during the four-day trip.
