Metrolinx to cancel some GO bus routes as unvaccinated staff will be put on leave – .

Metrolinx says it expects to cancel a limited number of GO bus trips on Monday because some of its employees will not be available for work due to their COVID-19 vaccination status.

The Crown agency’s mandatory vaccination policy will take effect on November 1, which means all staff who did not provide a medical exemption or proof of vaccination on Monday will be placed on unpaid leave.

As of Oct. 29, 97.1 percent of its 4,600 employees had completed their vaccination certificates, Metrolinx said, and of them, 95.4 percent are fully vaccinated.

“We now have a better idea of how many of our workforce will be on leave without pay – it’s a very small number (around 2-3% of the staff), but enough to have an impact,” the spokesperson said. from Metrolinx, Anne Marie Aikins. in a report.

“The teams have worked very strategically to minimize the impacts and ensure that an alternative option is available to customers. “

Metrolinx has announced that it will cancel 6% of its 1,417 bus trips as of November 1. The Crown agency also advises that intermittent trips could also be canceled.

Metrolinx did not say which trips would be cut on Monday, but Aikins said the cancellations would be spread across the Greater Toronto Area and Hamilton, “so no one customer in particular will feel the full impact.”

“Customers are encouraged to plan ahead, check the website for service updates before leaving home, and sign up for On The GO alerts,” said Metrolinx.

“We will regularly communicate to customers any impact on the services. We appreciate their understanding. ”
