Mauricio Pochettino has opened up about how he would turn Manchester United into a dominant force in the Premier League if taken on.
Pochettino has been linked with a move to United to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following the Norwegian’s sack on Sunday morning.

United were beaten 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at Watford, leaving them in seventh place and 12 points behind leaders Chelsea.

Michael Carrick will take the reins temporarily until a replacement is found and the MEN understand that Pochettino is ready to leave his post at Paris Saint-Germain to take over at Old Trafford.

The Argentina coach has spoken in the past about the transformation and success he has achieved at Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur could not have happened without the support of the board and the players.

Speaking to Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football show in November 2020, Pochettino said: “Southampton was different from Tottenham and Tottenham different from Southampton… Tottenham was a 33-man squad, a team trying to create an identity, or maybe change the period they were building.

“And that’s why they maybe find a young coach and a young manager and try to develop a different way of approaching the games.

“In the same way that I speak very loudly about Nicola and the Southampton club, for us Tottenham has been an amazing journey with over five years that we really enjoy from day one and we get to know people like Louis who are the owner with Daniel Levy.

“And the whole board room, the board and all of the staff who have helped from day one help us be successful.

“And then the players. But the players were also amazing. There is a set of different habits, but the player is not responsible for the habits he sometimes adopts. Not sometimes, always [it] is [the people] who run the club, who run businesses today, football is businesses, must be strong in the way you want to create the habits to translate the principle to your team.

“The players are important because as a main player on the pitch. And then you have to create the line from the top and be strong in your premise of how you’re going to develop in order to run things. [to] turn out as you wish.

If Pochettino gets to mid-season, he will take over a side that are playing well below their capabilities and will need to get his ideas across quickly if United are to have any chance of getting anything out of this season.

On this, Pochettino said that it’s easier to implement ideas during the preseason, but it’s important to create a ‘platform’ where players feel comfortable as well as the freedom to build something without anyone interfering.

“I think it was amazing to have this opportunity to feel free, to create something special at Tottenham, I think it was amazing.

“And then, of course, you know change is always painful. It is really painful. You have to, when you come to a new club, you have to make some changes.

“If you arrive from the beginning, [it’s] Easier. But if you get to the middle [of a season], the same thing, you have to start building and that’s why building a great platform is so important and that’s what we really believe in.

“The coaching staff is about creating a platform where players can feel comfortable and can improve, that’s so important. “
