The world’s youngest Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Malala Yousafzai, got married nearly a decade after a Taliban gunman boarded her school bus and shot her in the head.

The 24-year-old global women’s rights icon took to social media on Tuesday to announce her marriage to partner Asser Malik.

The intimate Muslim wedding ceremony took place at her home in Birmingham, England.

“Today marks a precious day in my life,” Yousafzai captioned the photos.

“Asser and I got married to be lifelong partners.

“Please send us your prayers.

“We are delighted to be walking together on the upcoming trip. “

Yousafzai wore a pale pink Islamic wedding dress, complemented by the groom’s pale pink tie.

The newlyweds posed for photos as they signed their marriage contract and outside among the fall foliage.

The wedding news was warmly congratulated by high profile Yousafzai fans, including former first daughter Chelsea Clinton, actress Reese Witherspoon and fellow activist Greta Thunberg.

“Congratulations on this wonderful moment! », Commented Witherspoon.

Just five months ago, the Oxford University graduate revealed doubts about her marriage.

Yousafzai – who survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban at the age of 15 for defending girls’ right to education – told British “Vogue” in July that she did not understand the importance of marriage.

“I still don’t understand why people have to get married,” she told British Vogue.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner previously said in an interview that she did not “understand” marriage.

“If you want to have a person in your life, why do you have to sign marriage papers, why can’t it just be a partnership?

“My mom is like… ‘Don’t you dare say something like that! You have to get married, marriage is beautiful.

Groom Asser Malik would be the general manager of the high performance Pakistan Cricket Board.
