Vancouver city officials and Vancouver police suggest the closure was due to the risk of the barge crashing into the bridge.
VPD and the City of Vancouver took to social media to share the news.
While the barge is still stranded along English Bay, authorities are closing the Burrard Bridge as a precaution.
As a precaution, crews will close the Burrard Bridge at 7 p.m. due to the risk of the Sunset Beach barge coming loose and colliding with the bridge. We work with @PortVancouver @CoastGuardCAN to assess the current risk. Plans are underway to tow the barge off the coast. pic.twitter.com/NfwoIMnHFn
