Weeks keep counting New Amsterdam before Max and Helen left New York to start a new life in London, but Michelle Forbes’ Dr Veronica Fuentes does not make the decision easy on them. Just when Max looked like he was going to score a big win with Brantley by his side before leaving, Fuentes took a big step that leaves her in a greater position of power than before, soon after. after dismissing staff and change the whole power dynamic of the hospital. Jocko Sims, whose Reynolds ended up as president of general surgery in the former role of Baptiste due to the layoffs, spoke with CinemaBlend about what will happen next. After it looked like Brantley had found enough voice on the board to do what Max wanted from the start and fire Dr. Fuentes, Max was happy to raise his hand to dismiss her. Unfortunately for him (and Brantley), Veronica had secretly recruited the board member with the key vote by his side, giving him Brantley’s former job as chairman of the board in return for his support. Her hold on her role as medical director was firm with Max on the way to the start, and Max was clearly not happy with that. When I spoke with Jocko Sims about “In A Strange Land” and noticed that Michelle Forbes is so good at playing the bad part of Dr. Fuentes, he previewed what the hospital will look like now that she is not. ‘has more opposition to anyone who wants to oust him:
While Dr. Fuentes’ moves have ranged from reasonable to downright contemptible throughout Season 4 so far, she has presented them in a way that is soft enough to fly with the board. Interestingly, the Jocko Sims character has professionally lost less than the rest when it comes to making cuts by Fuentes. Bloom and the emergency department were struggling without Casey, and Iggy’s schedule was a disaster without Gladys, but Reynolds got the top job in the surgery department after Baptiste was fired. He just didn’t get the top job he wanted, which sums up Fuentes a bit: she gets things done to calculate the numbers efficiently, but the main characters don’t like it.
And the main characters with more altruistic expectations of their MD make sense, after three and a half seasons of Max’s “How Can I Help?” Goodwin in charge. “In A Strange Land” showed the contrast between Max and Fuentes more than ever as she sided with ICE as Max broke the rules to the point of almost breaking to help bring the undocumented migrants back to the sanctuary. Right after the layoffs, it was easy to see why the doctors were so frustrated with her. At the same time, the layoffs were financially necessary. When I commented that I almost felt guilty when I sometimes saw the point of Fuentes in what she did, Jocko Sims replied:
Sandra Mae Frank’s Dr Wilder looks more like Max than Dr Fuentes, so it bodes well for New Amsterdam that she came. on board to replace Helen. But having an oncologist who wants to spend $ 2 million on a patient is not the same as having a medical director who can approve it. All things considered, Fuentes is in a more secure position at the top than ever before, and Max appears to be running out of cards to play against her now that Brantley is no longer in a position to help as she once could. And he’s leaving New York soon.
Professional issues in New Amsterdam only compound what some doctors face in their personal lives, especially Reynolds in her unconventional relationship with Malvo and her husband. Is love really all they need to make the romance work, or is the relationship doomed now that the role of Reynolds is exposed and Baptiste has been fired?
