France unveils € 14 million plan to fight the “worrying” increase in child prostitution – .

The French government has unveiled a plan to tackle underage prostitution, calling it a “worrying” and “growing” problem.
Secretary of State for Children Adrien Taquet said Tuesday at a press conference that at least 7,000 to 10,000 children are affected. He also said the number “is constantly increasing”.

“Half of them, mostly girls, but also boys, enter prostitution at 14 years old. This concerns all social circles, ”said Taquet.

The € 14 million plan will be rolled out throughout 2021 and 2022.

In order to support disaster-stricken families with their children, the government will set up “a unique listening platform” and intends to create a nationwide network with specialized associations.

Much money will be devoted to “raising the awareness of the children themselves at school and training all professionals in contact with them, the educational community, social workers, the police and the gendarmerie”, explained Cleat.

The objective is to better identify the “weak signals” that a young person is in the process of prostitution: behavior change, dropping out of school, isolation, running away.

Jennifer Pailhé, the mother of a young girl who fell into prostitution at 14, told reporters during the press conference that she was “faced with the incomprehension of the gendarmes”.

“If she went, it was because she was willing – they didn’t understand the phenomenon of control. They thought she was [participating] voluntarily, ”she added.

Cyber pimping

Social workers should be given more resources to carry out a “digital maraud” on social media to identify victims who post ads.

The government also wants to put pressure on apartment rental platforms, as meetings increasingly take place in rented spaces.

Justice Minister Eric Dupond-Moretti has said that the French presidency of the European Union – which will take place in the first half of 2022 – will present measures to the rest of the bloc to force rental platforms to respond to inquiries regarding “The trafficking or procuring of minors. “.

“Rental platforms like Airbnb must alert [a host] the risks that his apartment could give rise to prostitution behavior, and uses algorithms to detect customers who behave in a suspicious manner, ”said Tacquet.

The government also intends to “strengthen the capacities of investigators under pseudonyms” and develop “investigations into cyber-procuring”.

Armelle Le Bigot-Macaux, president of the ACPE association for the fight against child prostitution, hailed these announcements as a “real step forward”.

“This is the first time that I have the feeling that there is a political will to fight against child prostitution,” she said.
