Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers) has announced his intention to return to the Tour de France in 2022.

The 24-year-old Colombian, who won the overall Tour title in 2019, told Revista Mundo Ciclistico he was aiming for the Grand Tour de France again next year after aiming – and winning – the Giro d’Italia. in 2021.

“It is clear that we are going to focus all our preparation and our efforts thinking about participating in the Tour de France this year,” said Bernal. “It’s time to come back to pick up the path we found in 2019 and from which we separated a little. “

Bernal became Colombia’s very first Tour de France champion in 2019, but back problems derailed his 2020 campaign and he dropped out of that year’s Tour. He has focused on the Giro this season and achieved an overall victory there.
