Earthworm Jim animated series in development – .

Earthworm Jim is no stranger to television, and soon the video game series will receive a second animated adaptation. According to Variety, Interplay Entertainment has created a new television and film studio, partnering with APA on the project, while the animation is provided by Passion Pictures. The new Interplay studio is headed by Michel K. Parandi, who also works with producer Aaron Billet on the series. In an interview with Variety, Parandi spoke about the potential of the series, while also giving some clues as to what fans can expect to see from it.

“I remember loving ‘Earthworm Jim’ when I was a kid,” Parandi told Variety. “And there is so much potential in this story universe: a galaxy full of animals fighting for power. Jim is an earthworm in a universe where Earth is nothing more than a myth. His struggle to find meaning is surreal and comical, but it’s also relatable. “

An excerpt from the series is available below.

L’original Far de terre Jim released in 1994 for Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis, inspiring several sequels, cartoon, action figures and comics. The series has largely remained dormant for the past two decades, aside from a (now deleted) remake of the original game released in 2010 on PS3 and Xbox 360. Given that many gamers who grew up with these games are older now, the new series will try to satisfy them, while also looking for new fans.

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to create a show for an iconic character that we grew up both playing on Genesis and watching on TV,” producer Aaron Billet told Variety. “The fans have matured and deserve a current take as we attract new audiences. “

Understandably, the announcement prompted questions about Earthworm Jim creator Doug TenNapel’s role in the series. TenNapel is used to making homophobic and transphobic comments on social media. On Twitter, Interplay Entertainment has stated that TenNapel will not be involved in the production of the show. Following the show’s announcement, a new Earthworm Jim Twitter account was asked if the character supports Trans rights. Account responded with “I say trans rights are human rights, babe,” then maybe TenNapel’s influence has really ended!
