Dune finally crossed the $ 100 million US box office threshold a month after its simultaneous release and debut on the HBO Max streaming platform.
Profits in the United States now bring the film directed by Denis Villeneuve to a worldwide total of more than $ 370 million.
The film, which is an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel, grossed $ 400,000 on Thanksgiving Day Thursday, bringing it to a nationwide total of $ 100.1 million on day 35 of its release.

The only other Warner Bros. to hit that same mark with a simultaneous release on HBO Max was Godzilla vs. Kong, who did so after 12 weekends.
Director Villeneuve was not a fan of the film studio’s decision to release all films under their banner both in theaters and on the streaming platform as it blew up the movement in December 2020.
The 54-year-old French-Canadian filmmaker wrote an op-ed for Variety in which he expressed his frustrations with the big studio move.

He wrote: “Warner Bros. The sudden turnaround from being an inherited home for filmmakers in the new age of utter contempt draws a clear line for me.
“The shoot is a collaboration, based on the mutual trust of teamwork and Warner Bros. said they were no longer on the same team. ”
Villeneueve was also not happy to have discovered the pivot like everyone else.
He explained, “I heard from the news that Warner Bros. decided to release Dune on HBO Max at the same time as our theatrical release, using important footage from our movie to promote their streaming service.

“With this decision, AT&T hijacked one of the most respectable and important studios in movie history. There is absolutely no love for the cinema or for the audience here. ‘

Last month, Chalamet confirmed that the sequel to Dune has been confirmed for release in 2023.
