Chelsea Fears Ben Chilwell’s Knee Injury Is Cruciate Ligament Injury

Labyrinthine Covid Reminder System Is The Real Reason For The Delays

Chelsea are waiting to find out if Ben Chilwell could miss the remainder of the season with a suspected anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Chilwell was sent off in Chelsea’s win over Juventus on Tuesday night and is undergoing a scan to determine the severity of the injury. The left-back could be out for six to nine months if fears he suffered ACL damage are confirmed.

Chelsea will be desperate to hear good news from Chilwell, who has been in excellent form this season. The England international got off to a slow start but has impressed since reclaiming his place from Marcos Alonso. He played a major role in the rise of Thomas Tuchel’s side to the top of the Premier League and has scored four times for club and country.

Chilwell looked to be in big trouble after hitting his knee in the second half. He left with help, and Tuchel later said some of the pain had subsided, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he avoided serious injury. For example, West Ham’s Angelo Ogbonna played for a few minutes after suffering a knee injury against Liverpool this month, only for scans to reveal the defender had ACL damage.

England will also be eagerly awaiting whether Chilwell faces a long layoff. The 24-year-old is a regular at Gareth Southgate’s squad and it would be a big blow if he couldn’t help with preparations for the 2022 World Cup.

Chelsea also have concerns over N’Golo Kanté, who is uncertain to face Manchester United on Sunday after being forced to face Juventus due to a knee problem. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is reportedly in line to start in central midfielder if Kanté is absent.
