Canucks misery continues with loss to Blue Jackets despite great efforts – .

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Elvis Merzlikins stopped 39 shots, Gustav Nyquist scored on a shorthand and got an assist, and the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Vancouver Canucks 4-2 on Friday night.
Jack Roslovic scored the deciding goal at 6:06 of the third period for Columbus, and Adam Boqvist and Max Domi also scored. The Blue Jackets have won three in a row and four of five.

Vancouver has lost five in a row on the road. Vasily Podkolzin and Tyler Motte scored, and Thatcher Demko stopped 17 shots as the Canucks lost for the eighth time in their last nine games.

Nyquist started the scoring for Columbus with a goal at 13:54 on the penalty kill, the second shorthanded goal of his career and the Blue Jackets’ second of the year.

Vancouver tied with 27.6 seconds left in the first period when Justin Dowling intercepted a clearance pass and fed Podkolzin for his fourth goal of the season.

Despite being outscored 16-5, Columbus regained the lead at 6:17 of the second when Boqvist beat Demko with the rebound from Cole Sillinger’s shot for his second goal of the year.

Vancouver shot again towards the end of the period, as former Blue Jacket Motte tipped Quinn Hughes’ shot at the blue line at 6:42 pm for his second goal in six games since returning from surgery around the neck of the off season.

Roslovic’s third goal of the season, a pointershot, gave Columbus a 3-2 lead. Jakub Voracek’s assist extended his home points streak to six games and gave him 14 NHL main assists.

Domi scored an empty net with 1:35 to go.
