Brian Kelly leaves Notre-Dame to train LSU: Sources – .

Brian Kelly of Notre Dame will be hired as LSU’s next head coach, sources confirmed to athleticism Monday evening. LSU’s offer to Kelly is a 10-year deal that will take him north of $ 100 million with incentives, sources say athleticismby Matt Fortuna and Brody Miller.
Kelly, who took over from South Bend in 2010 and is the most successful coach in Fighting Irish history, has made two college football playoff appearances and has Notre Dame in the mix again this season.

The Tigers are rumored to be on the line for several coaches who have signed elsewhere, including USC head coach Lincoln Riley. But Kelly, whose 263 career wins are the third among active FBS head coaches behind Nick Saban of Alabama and Mack Brown of North Carolina, would be a big hire for LSU.

Expectations are high at LSU, where its three previous head coaches have each won a national title: Saban in 2003, Les Miles in 2007 and Ed Orgeron in 2019.

At Notre Dame, there will be some momentum among university decision-makers to elevate defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman to head coach, according to sources. athleticismPete Sampson reports that while entry-level head coaches typically don’t work at Notre Dame, the Fighting Irish are currently in a more stable position than in previous hires.

Kelly texted Notre Dame on Team Works on Monday night to apologize for how news of his departure broke and he couldn’t tell the team himself. He will meet the team on Tuesday at 7 a.m. ET.
