Ballon d’Or 2021 LIVE as Lionel Messi prepares to beat Robert Lewandowski and Jorginho to make history – .

Relive the best moments of Messiit is six Ballon d’Or triomphe

Lionel Messi is expected to receive his seventh Ballon d’Or in a scintillating ceremony in 2021 in Paris tonight. Messi is the favorite after winning the Copa America with Argentina earlier this year, despite one of his less impressive years at club level: Barcelona finished third in La Liga and fell in the first round of 16 go to the Champions League. However, Messi scored two goals as Barca won the Copa del Rey final and he was La Liga’s top scorer again, before moving to Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

Robert Lewandowski was expected to win last year’s award before it was canceled due to the pandemic, and the Bayern Munich forward is in contention again. Another contender is Chelsea’s Jorginho, having won the Champions League with his club and Euro 2020 with his country Italy a few months later.

Barcelona’s Alexia Putellas and Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema lead the charge for the women’s award. Putellas scored in the final as all-time winners Barca won the Champions League, while Miedema is both the all-time top scorer of the Netherlands and the Women’s Super League and has scored goals at the Olympic Games. Spaniard Pedri is set to win the Kopa trophy for best young male player, while Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy and PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma lead the race for the men’s goalkeeper award, the Yashin Trophy.

The ceremony takes place tonight at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, from 19:30 GMT. It will be broadcast live online via The teamYouTube, and Eurosport will also stream the award to its Eurosport website and app. The ceremony is expected to end around 9 p.m. GMT. Ballon d’Or 2021: Neymar absent for the rest of the year

Neymar is on the nominees list for tonight, but is unlikely to be near the favorites after a rather disappointing spell – including the loss in the Copa America final.
His 2021 isn’t going to get any better either, as an ankle ligament injury is expected to keep him out for 6-8 weeks, it has just been announced. More action for him than after the winter break and the new year with PSG.
