A new report has suggested that the Australia Zoo is in an even more difficult financial situation than previously thought.

After the Irwins admitted the zoo was in dire straits in February, an Australia Zoo employee has now revealed to New Idea that layoffs have already taken place at the sanctuary.

According to the source, “several key staff” have been made redundant in recent weeks.

The magazine also reported rumors that matriarch Terri Irwin, 57, “may soon explore the option of selling” the once popular tourist destination.

Terri recently expressed her homesickness in a revealing tweet, writing, “I miss my hometown Eugene Oregon.”

“I miss my family, friends and the beautiful wildlife,” added Steve Irwin’s widow.
