Amir Khan and Kell Brook clash and are separated by security as heated argument breaks out at opening press conference

Amir Khan and Kell Brook moved closer together and argued angrily as tensions reached an all time high.

Their long-standing rivalry has been going on for years but will finally be settled in the ring on February 19 in Manchester, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Before a word was spoken, they clashed at a press conference on Monday, banging their heads in a confrontation and demanding that security guards separate them.

Khan vs Brook, live on Sky Sports Box Office, February 19

Brook said of the finalization of a fight: “This is when Amir Khan will hit the bridge for the last time. “

Brook explained the long wait for the biggest all-British fight outside the heavyweight division: “He always deviated, never respected me, never recognized me.

“He said, ‘Win a world title, then I’ll fight you, fight this guy, then I’ll fight you.

” He escaped.

“It concerns a part of his career where he has nowhere else to run.

“I wanted it for many years. “

Khan retorted to Brook, “In the last 10 years I’ve fought two of the best fighters pound for pound.

“I never ran away from Kell. I never needed it.

“What I have accomplished speaks for itself.

“There’s no point in crying over the past. In the past, he didn’t deserve this fight.

“Come February 19, it will be time to see if he can support those words. “

Amir Khan accused Kell Brook of looking “overweight”

Khan insisted he had never seen Brook as a worthy opponent: “I’m going down the levels by taking this fight. I fought the best in the world. I conquered America.

“But people want to see me punch him in the face.

“Now is the time for me to put it back in its place and move on to bigger and better things. “

Brook’s mood flared and he shouted, “He’s in cuckoo country.”

“You are knocked out. I’ll knock you out. “

Khan hit back, “It’s easy to talk about a big game. You are very bitter. You have always had this bitterness. “

Brook scoffed at his rival’s “celebrity” status, but Khan argued, “If I wasn’t good I wouldn’t be in this position. “

Khan laughed at Brook, “You’re half retired now. You look overweight! “

They rowed to agree on a weight division for their fight. Khan insisted he was happy to meet at welterweight, but Brook was unwilling to lose enough weight.

“I went out of my way for your requests,” Brook said.

Khan and Brook remain the two main British welterweights.

Khan is a former unified and double world champion and has boxed Marco Antonio Barrera, Paulie Malignaggi, Andreas Kotelnik, Marcos Maidana and Luis Collazo.

Brook won his IBF belt by ending Shawn Porter’s unbeaten record away from home in the United States.

Every man courageously took risks in the top weight divisions – Brook fought Gennadiy Golovkin, Khan took on Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez – and they argued over their respective records.

“Michael Gomez put you down,” Brook said.

Khan: “You were knocked out by a jab against Terence Crawford!

Brook: “You looked for a way out against Crawford – you quit! “

This rivalry grew out of their teenage amateur years.

“At first I was teaching it,” Khan said. “Why was I chosen for the Olympic team [in 2004 when he won a silver medal]? Because I was teaching Kell with one hand.

The coaches would say to me: ‘Amir, just use one hand against him!’ “

Brook’s coach Dominic Ingle warned, “It’s only a matter of time until he lands. He still has speed and power. “

Brook vowed to win: “Precision. I’m coming for a pub brawl! A parking lot scrap! “

Khan said: “A parking lot junk? He needs a little more than that. “

Ben Shalom with “two icons of sport”

BOXXER promoter Ben Shalom said: “They are two icons of the sport. The two have conquered the world. Both have won world titles. They come with the lessons of the great battles, of the mistakes they made.

“But they come to the exact same position and that’s why it’s so compelling.

“Finally, we’ll find out – is it Brook or Khan?” ”
