Akim Aliu’s lawyer casts doubt after NHL says Bill Peters investigation is over – .

NEW YORK – The NHL has said it has completed its investigation into the conduct of former Calgary Flames head coach Bill Peters.
Assistant Commissioner Bill Daly told reporters on Monday that the league had completed its investigation into Peters’ alleged racist and abusive behavior towards his players.

Akim Aliu, who is black, played for Peters when they were both with the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League over a decade ago. He accused his former coach in November 2019 of using racial slurs.

Michal Jordan, who played for Peters with the NHL Carolina Hurricanes, also alleged that Peters kicked and punched him at another unnamed player during a game.

Peters resigned as head coach of the Calgary Flames following the accusations.

“The investigation is over,” Daly said at a press conference. “We have been in contact with representatives from Akim (Aliu) about next steps, if any.

“There have been no recent communications in this regard, but the investigation is closed. “

Aliu’s lawyer Ben Meiselas saw Daly’s statement on Twitter and tweeted that neither he nor Aliu had been contacted by the NHL.

“This is news to me and it’s not true. I’m Akim’s representative and the NHL hasn’t been in contact with us for over a year, ”said Meiselas. not limited to Peters.

“The witnesses we told them about have not been contacted. “

Peters was 199-175 as a coach of Carolina and Calgary during a six-year NHL career.

Aliu has two goals and an assist in seven NHL games, all with the Flames. He co-founded the Hockey Diversity Alliance with Evander Kane in June 2020 to fight intolerance and racism in hockey.
